JAKE MATTHEW
Jake Matthew is a singer songwriter from Nashville, Tennesee. Jake wrote and performed his first song as a mere second grader. He then took four years off from music before starting guitar lessons at age ten. He hit the talent show stage again at thirteen playing Sweet Home Alabama. His formative musical influences, among others, were Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, CCR, Nickelback and Billy Joel. He first regular singing gig was in his car after obtaining his driver’s license.
A multi-sport athlete in high school, Jake attended the University of Maine as a defensive end on the football team, before transferring to the University of Florida where he threw the javelin. Summers during college were spent working and tending horses, and singing for friends on the weekend. He was hopeful of someday becoming an Olympian in the javelin, but a torn rotator cuff ended that dream. As his side passion for music grew, people started asking him to play and sing. As a senior finishing up a degree in building construction, Jake decided to propose to his girlfriend. With $1,400 in his savings account, he enlisted the help of a local jeweler to start designing an engagement ring. However, fate intervened when in the middle of a dinner date, the potential fiancé broke off the relationship. So, Jake did what most forlorn men do and decided to redirect the ring money to the purchase of a Gibson guitar, packed all his earthly possessions into a small SUV and headed nine hours north to pursue his musical dreams in Nashville.
Jake found work with a construction firm and after long days in the field, he would head somewhere quiet to work on his songwriting or would try to make the cut at bars and honky tonks on open mic nights. Realizing that working six days a week in construction left him little time and energy to write and perform, Jake left that job and started driving for a rideshare business, but that barely paid the bills and he soon found himself staring at an eviction notice for unpaid rent. He considered purchasing a small camper shell for the used pickup he recently bought and making the trunk bed his home until he got back on solid ground.
Fortunately, word started to spread and he began finding consistent jobs singing and playing in downtown Nashville. Jake’s performing talents and songwriting abilities were quickly noticed which led to commercial and film recordings, and live performances spanning from Nashville to America's east and west coast, Canada and all parts between. Jake recently inked his first record deal and a studio album will be released in the next couple months, followed by a tour.
Jake loves chips and guacamole, steak and beer, America and Jesus.
