Benjamin James Kincaid was born in 1987 in Fort Worth, TX, to Linn and Susan Kincaid. He is survived by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Peter and Lily (Steiner) Kincaid, brother Julian Kincaid, and a large extended family and countless friends around the world who loved and supported Ben. He attended schools in Wichita, graduating from Southeast High in 2006. He moved to Kansas City, MO where he worked and played at several jazz venues. After that, his main endeavor was seasonal contract work at national parks and resorts around the nation, which gave him the freedom to explore his passion for travel and endurance bicycling during the off- seasons. A solo road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway inspired Ben to ride his bicycle from Portland OR, to Portland, Maine (5,400 mi). Later, he rode from Oslo Norway to Cape Finisterre, Spain (3,350 km). On that trip, he took advantage of the opportunity to further explore another passion for the French culture and language. Wherever he rode, Ben carried his beloved saxophone, spreading joy to all. He was an accomplished musician, a committed volunteer, and a powerful activist for causes he believed in. In 2020, Ben contracted severe COVID in Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he was employed, and he also played with a 19-piece big band. COVID cost him both jobs, and then he struggled after a cancer diagnosis, recurring bouts of pneumonia and depression until June 14, 2022, when his suffering ended. A memorial service is scheduled on July 23, 2022, 1:00 pm, at the Crown Uptown Theatre in Wichita, followed by an open musical jam at 5:00 pm, at the Shamrock Lounge. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: bensmemorial.com and funds will be distributed among organizations that supported Ben.
